Often times any itching or flaking gets called Psoriasis but let’s make sure before we start using special (Very Expensive) products to help treat/sooth it! Psoriasis is the most common of all the scaly problems but it is certainly not the only one. Psoriasis can also affect the elbows and knees.
Let’s identify it! Psoriasis will most commonly appear as silvery white scales on inflamed, red skin. The scales aren’t easily removed and if scratched can result in bleeding. Psoriasis is an autoimmune problem that is triggered by other events. Sufferers have a genetic predisposition. Stress and some medications can aggravate psoriasis. As with many autoimmune problems, certain foods can be a trigger. Gluten can be related.
Let’s get it under control! No therapy will cure Psoriasis but there are lots of things can help with the symptoms. Everyone responds differently to treatments so you may have to try more than one! Our go-to in the salon is the Tricho Range from De Lorenzo. There is a Scalp Balance range that includes a Cleanser, Conditioner and Toner. Any further treatments will have to be discussed with your Trichologist first, luckily there is one available by appointment on staff at Becky B Hair
